Apart from the obvious – Churchill Downs, and the first saturday of May, which incidentally is also the title of a wonderful documentary about the Kentucky Derby and would make a great gift for anyone, including yourself. Louisville can also boast a riverfront, great live music, fantastic art, and the nation’s largest urban forest – yes, really!
But it also has the spectacular 21c Museum Hotel, which will make you feel like Alice in Wonderland, or in a big city, no matter what your age or mood, and just when you thought it couldn’t get any hipper, or better than that…they take dogs too, not just little lap dogs, but they are very friendly to big, proper labrador type dogs! As soon as the children start earning my fortune, Leo and I are moving in!
One of Louisville’s eventing treasures must be Martha Lambert – one of the hardest working, and most modest riders and coaches around.
Her daughter, Lauren, is now a competitor in her own right and is spending the winter this year down in Wellington, perfecting her show jumping while working for Derek Braun.Martha meanwhile, has escaped to Aiken for a month. We look forward to seeing them both back competing in Kentucky in the spring.
