Name: Melinda

Age: 25

Location: Missouri

Relationship to Eventing: Part-time Rider (anytime I’m not working)/Full-time Mentor

Favorite Eventing moment/story?: Although it’s hard to choose one moment in eventing that stands out among all the wonderful times, I will always cherish the memory of finally taking my mare training. I knew it would be her last event (melanoma’s were quickly taking over her reproductive track), but she was definitely game and it seemed to be a fitting way to end our eventing partnership. Normally, I’m a pretty emotionally reserved person, but I couldn’t help but throw a fist pump up as we crossed the finish line within milliseconds of optimum time. When one of my new rides challenge me, I think back to that moment and find encouragement.

If you had to pick one reason why you love Eventing, what would it be? I believe Eventing to be the Ultimate test of horse and rider, the bonds that are formed between horse and rider are indescribable, the by-the-seat-of-your-pants precision on cross country is every adrenalin junkies dream, and the people in eventing are the best in the world!

Overall Goals in the sport: To expose (addict) as many people to Eventing as possible.

Biggest role model: Growing up in Pony Club exposed me to so many exceptional people, but I’ll reserve “Biggest Role Model” for Carlie, my instructor for countless years, teaching through example the arts of patience, tact, and horsemanship.
