Friday News & Notes from FLAIR Nasal Strips

Good morning and happy Friday! Exciting news came from Allison Springer’s Twitter yesterday, confirming that her new ride, Lionheart, has arrived in the US. Lion was scheduled to arrive in New York around 4 AM on Thursday, and after clearing quarantine he will be on his way to Northern Virginia to begin his new partnership with Allison.

Friday News:

Cosequin sponsors an OTTB Showcase column on the Paulick Report that spotlights ex-racehorses in their new careers. This month, Cosequin reports on Crown Dragon, affectionately known as Simba. This is one of the most heartwarming stories that I have read in a long time. Simba’s story began with a little girl who found a severely underweight chestnut on a auction lot’s Facebook page. This little girl scraped together her babysitting money ($325, to be exact) and brought home what turned to be a true saint of a horse. Many thanks to Cosequin and the Paulick Report for sharing this wonderful story with us. [Simba’s New Lease on Life]

Have you entered EN’s Make Your Own Stirrups contest yet? Amerigo just released a new line of stirrups, and one lucky winner will receive a pair here on EN courtesy of our fabulous sponsor World Equestrian Brands. The stirrups, made from aluminum, feature a self-cleaning tread and an excellent grip for all types of boots. All you have to do is create your own stirrups and sending us a photo by next Monday, November 25. Our top picks will be posted and a reader’s choice poll will determine the winner. So the more creative the submission, the better your chance of winning! Click to check out more photos of the stirrups in action and further contest submission details. Another CIC3* has been added to the 2014 competition calendar. The Carolina Horse Park will offer the Carolina International CIC3* in March alongside the Southern Pines HT II. The organizing committee boasts some exciting names such as Bobby Costello, Marc Donovan, and Will Faudree. [Carolina International CIC3*]

Are you the proud owner of an OTTB? If so, the Retired Racehorse Training Project is looking for some feedback from you. The survey is designed for those who own anywhere from one to five ex-racehorses. If you fit the bill or know someone who does, head on over to the survey to share your insights. [OTTB Owner Survey]

Do you frequently ride at night or in low light situations? There is a Kickstarter project on the rise that is promoting tail lights for horses. Sami Gross is a search and rescue rider and rancher who designed the product using LED lights instead of reflectors. Definitely something that would be useful in the dark days of winter, if you ask me. [Tail Lights]

Here is some equestrian real estate to spend your hard earned $33 million on. A premier equestrian estate is on the market in Nevada. Features include a 52,000 square foot indoor arena and an equestrian-themed mansion to match. [Premier Equestrian Real Estate]
