Friday News & Notes from Legends Horse Feeds

Important OTTB retraining technique: the coffee hack.

Now that the monsoon of May is seemingly over in Virginia, it was closely followed by the five days of hives, which is subsequently accompanied by the great balding of June. My lovely sensitive little drama queen of a TB basically gets hives every time he gets rained on (which was a lot) and when the hives evaporate, he gets little cruddy patches, and when you clean them, all his hair falls out. So, he has dapples AND bald patches, which is a really good look.

News From Around the Globe:

William Fox Pitt seems to have a tendency to fly a lot of kites jog a lot of wildlings at FEI events, and Luxury FH was no exception at Bramham. This is definitely one of the best jog photos I’ve seen in a long time, and a close call for WFP! It’s a meme waiting to happen *hint hint*. With 96 entrants in the Equi-Trek CCI3* and the Bishop Burton Under 25 CCI3*, dressage continues today with the jumping to come this weekend. Entries are open for the Young Horse Jump Chute Clinic at the end of this month! Hosted by The Frame Sporthorses and Arden Farm in Upperville Virginia, this clinic offers a private 30 minute free jump session to all young horses from both eventing and jumper worlds. Learn from some of the best about free jumping and training a young horse in hand. [Young Horse Free Jump Clinic]

Speaking of near misses, there are plenty of horses that have won just two of the legs of the Triple Crown, only to fall victim to the Belmont. The last and longest of the races has a history of cutting Triple Crown dreams short on the long stretch to the finish line, but can Justify beat the odds? Horse Nation looked into twenty-three horses who only managed the first two, but were dashed in the last. [23 Horses That Didn’t Win the Belmont]

Heritage Park Horse Trials offers Starter through Preliminary levels each year at their event in October for Area IV. Based in Olathe, Kansas, this year the park will also host the Area IV championships. Heritage Park is one of the oldest events in the US, started by the Mid-America Combined Training Association in 1979, before levels below Preliminary were even recognized by the USCTA.
