Eventing Nation's 2010 Census

democracy at its finest

If you have been watching the US Olympic coverage on NBC, chances are you have seen the 2010 Census commercials.  You know, the ads with catchy threats phrases like "we can't move forward until you mail it back" and "the FBI will come and find you in your sleep if you don't reply."

So, today we are going to run our very own Eventing Nation Census.  I can't guarantee that they FBI will arrest you if you don't participate, but I can guarantee that your horse's trot will be a little easier to sit.  Also, participating will extend your EN break from work by about 30 seconds.  Here's how it works:

(1) *Click* on this post title and scroll down to the comment section.

(2) Type:
      -Your home country and state/province
      -Age
-Years of eventing experience and level
      -Favorite food
      -Number of horses
-How long you have been visiting EN
-*One suggestion for how we can make Eventing Nation better

(3) Feel free to use your EN username, but please keep your response anonymous: do not use your full name or name of your farm, etc.

(4) Hit 'submit.'

(5) Thank you!

The funny thing about website participation in this age of new media and conversation is that we consider it a great day of comments on Eventing Nation if 0.5% of our visitors comment, and EN has a pretty high participation rate relative to other sites.  SO, if you have never commented, today is a great time to give it a try.  Who knows, it might be fun.  Go eventing.

riding before walking/ evented for 47 years. Have competed internationally but have not gone Advanced for 3 years. I hope to go Advanced again before I am 60. I like to eat good vegetarian food. Too many horses to ride but I only own 2 and a pony. My working student got me to look at EN a week ago. The cross cantering puissance jumper got me hooked (7'10"!!!) I like everything about this site. It has variety and good info. I don't feel like it is a total waste of time.

Keep up coverage on the road to the WEG's for our team-USA-let us know who the team will be-speculation, I know-give us the inside scoop. Lay-off Darren with the tabloid coverage. If you watch him at the 2004 Olympics then watch 2008--he is a great rider and wish he was still on board for the upcoming events.

** Zeeland, MI
** 45
** riding/showing HJ & dressage 39 years, eventing mom for about 7 years, might event my youngster next year - he has to learn to canter first :)
** grilled salmon
** only 2 at the moment: homebred TB and talented welsh/arab
** shortly after Fair Hill

** Kind of sticking with the theme of others.** It's great to be kept up on US eventing news, but to most of us, the lives of most of those riders is no where near OUR reality: sponsors, owners, numerous horses to help accumulate points, they don't have to ride after work-it is their WORK - lucky!!
So, my suggestion: some stories about people like us, or amazing riders that are doing it with one horse and no sponsors. These types of stories would be inspiring vs. just a dream, and maybe offer insight into how we could make progress ourselves.
Sorry if that sounded preachy.
LOVE the site and usually visit at least once during the day and then again at night to see what else may have happened. GO EVENTING!

One suggestion for how we can make Eventing Nation better: I love EN the way it is!

One more suggestion: would love to see the grooming tips as a conversation or 2-person article. I was a groom for a top rider for a while and didn't agree with some of the grooming tips - and could have offered counter-examples and "another road to Rome" on quite a few. I think that would make a very interesting read and give everyone some new ideas.
