Canada’s Team

Well that was fast.  The Canadians selectors have officially picked the six members of the WEG eventing team.  The selectors named the six members, but the specifics of who will ride in the team competition and who will ride as individuals will be specified once the team is in Kentucky.
The team (in no particular order):

Selena O’Hanlon and Colombo
Steph Rhodes-Bosch and Port Authority
Rebecca Howard and Riddle Master
Kyle Carter and Madison Park
Jessica Phoenix and Exponential
Hawley Bennet-Awad and Gin & Juice

Alternates (no particular order):

Diana Burnett and Manny
Ian Roberts and Napalm

All 6 team members and both alternates are already on their way down to Ocala, Florida to train for these last few days before the WEGs.  Canada’s selections match Eventing Nation’s group picks from this morning and I completely agree with the selections.  This team is young, hungry, and very talented.  Except for Kyle, of course, who is an old man and well fed, but I would have put him on the team nonetheless because his horse is a freak of nature.  Go Canada.

Fun fact - 3 of the 6 members of the Canadian WEG team are from British Columbia, Canada. Rebecca, Steph and Hawley.

    Riddle Master over Manny?!
    Interesting.

No Ian and Napalm I'm shocked. He has had a better season this year in my opinion then some of the team members.

I think they made a great selection - and I'm from B.C. and proud of our girls - Hawley, Rebecca, and Stephanie!! And excited that they join 3 other great Canadian riders - Kyle, Jessica, and Selena

Is it possible that there are some other issues that we may not be privy to, regarding why Manny and Napalm are the alternates.

We have a GREAT team and we need to rejoice in that fact!! And that for the first time, in a long time, the selection team had to make some tough decisions in the selection process.

Go Eventing and Go Canada!!!! It's time to wave our flag and let the world know we are coming (oh, I'm getting a little carried away :-) !!)

It has been a long time since we have seen a western domination on the list like that!! Even Kyle is officially from Alberta.
This is a huge boost to western eventing. HUGE!!
Stephanie's dad was at Island 22 over the long weekend. Really nice guy!!

why did manny get left off?

  • jennifer Di and Mannys cousin from Georgia

I just want to say that i have never seen anyone so dedicated to a sport/lifestyle as my Diana. She has worked her way from the bottom to the top and taught her horses everything they know. I love and respect her and she may be an alternate but she still made the Canadian team and I couldnt be more proud! She will take the gold one day and be in first soon so people just watch out!

  • jennifer, Di and Mannys cousin from Georgia

I am Diana's cousin and I cant speak for the other Canadians but I am amazed at the committment of this sport/lifestyle that she has. Di has trained all of her horses and has gotten them to this level all on her own. Di made the Canadian olympic team and has made it to the highest level of the sport. I know that one day soon she will take a gold, get first at Rolex, or many other shows and I couldn't be anymore proud of her than I am today! I love her and know that this will be her life forever. From her biggest southern fan!

I think Ian and Napalm should have been picked over Rebecca and riddlemaster, he has more international experience, good results this year, and has done a 4 star. They have continously improved this season, and were most definitly overlooked. Too Bad.

Surprised Manny wasn't chosen, definitely the best dressage out of any of the team members. Glad Canada has such good riders to choose from though.
