Eventing Cinema

I’ve said it before, and I’ll said it again:  Eventing is a sport made for media.  The elegance of dressage, the fast-paced action of cross country, the stamina of stadium jumping.  Why more sports media outlets do not broadcast this sport is beyond me.  When I share Eventing video clips with non-horse friends via my social networks, the immediate reaction is most often, “WOW!”

The untapped media treasure of Eventing has not been lost with those in Britain.  To showcase Eventing, parallel with the 2012 London Equestrian Olympic Games,  British Eventing is offering aspiring film makers the opportunity to create an Eventing “short” as part of an online competition:   Eventing Cinema.  This is being done in association with HorseHub, an equestrian training app.

“The winning entry is that which best captures the spirit, adrenaline and horsemanship of the sport of Eventing.  This is a celebration of the sport and as such, film-makers are invited to submit films from any Eventing competition around the world.” (~British Eventing)  The winner of the competition will have the thrill of having their  film short displayed over the huge screens at the Land Rover Burghley,  September 2012, PLUS £1000.00 in photography or filming equipment.

Mike Etherington-Smith, Chief Executive at British Eventing, says: “The Eventing community is really getting into the spirit of the digital era according to the fantastic feedback from our social networks.   With the Olympics being held in Britain, the central hub of Eventing, what better time to launch a campaign so everyone can get involved around the world and put their creativity behind this fantastic sport!  We are very grateful to Elizabeth Inman for agreeing to both showcase and judge the winning film at Land Rover Burghley.”
