It’s not such a happy Friday for me, as I am currently wanting to crawl into a hole after the Cardinals threw away the National League pennant last night. But, as heartbroken as I am, I put a little fist bump emoji on Jen McFall’s Facebook last night, as she is a Giants fan and, well, I like to be sportsmanlike. That’s what it’s all about at the end right?

In more relevant news, Fair Hill is in full swing, with the two and three-star horses finishing their dressage tests today. Mondial du Lion is also running their six and seven-year-old championships this weekend, and there are several other events running domestically. The fall season is still in full swing, and it’s promising to be an exciting weekend all over for us eventers!

Friday News:

The NCAA is considering dropping equestrian from its list of sports. As a former collegiate rider, this is a very important topic. The NCAA designated equestrian as an emerging sport in 2002, which meant that there were 10 years allowed to get 40 teams up and running. Even after an extension, there are still just 22 teams involved, and some teams are beginning to cancel their membership. What will this mean for the future of young equestrians? #mindyourmelon! We can’t say that enough, and Canada’s Equine Guelph is joining in on helmet awareness. Check out this article for some tips on helmet fit and how to know when to replace your melon protector. [Helmet Hair Is Just Fine]

A water shortage in Oregon has prompted land management authorities to round up 75 mustangs. These mustangs will be prepared for adoption, so if Elisa Wallace anyone is in the market for a new mustang project, now might be your time! [Extra Mustang Roundup]

Two jockeys have lost their lives in as many days this week due to injuries sustained from accidents. Juan Saez is the latest victim, succumbing to severe head trauma after a fall at Indiana Grand Racing and Casino. Australian jockey Carly-Mae Pye also passed away after a training accident in Queensland. [Jockeys Pass Away Tragically]

SmartPak Product of the Day: Ok, I’ll be honest. I’m a total sucker for jackets and vests to ride in when the weather starts to cool off. Just ask Jenni, she calls it my “burden” to bear in life. I prefer to think of it as a practical supplement to my wardrobe. So when I spotted the Alexus Hipster Puffy Jacket on SmartPak, I just felt like I had to have it. Designed to keep you warm while still allowing movement, this jacket is the perfect barn accessory for the colder days. I personally can’t ride in a half or quarter zip pullover because I tend to shed layers when I ride, but this jacket just makes for the perfect top layer to wear without looking like a total fashion trainwreck. And let’s face it, we could all use a bit of help with that. [Alexus Hipster Puffy Jacket]

Doug Payne and Lysander couldn’t make it to Fair Hill this weekend, so they decided to try some 1.20m jumpers instead:
