The advent of the smart phone has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities when it comes to managing, tracking, and maintaining a fitness program for yourself. There are loads of apps that are dedicated simply to helping you create or monitor your workouts, and keep logs of how you are progressing and growing. However, there has been a dearth of apps like this for horse-related activities. Yes, there are ones that you can fudge and use to GPS track how long and how fast your hack was, but they don’t really calculate the way you want because they think you are running instead. But now we have an app from Woof Wear, the infamous makers of boots owned by every Eventer, and it’s called Track My Hack.
Not everybody has the same sort of access to “hacking” grounds that I do, but I spend 2 hours or more out in the wilderness on at least one horse every day. I’ve been searching for something that will help me figure out the mileage and precise speeds of my hacks for ages. The Track My Hack app is simple and user friendly, but effective for what I need it for.
You press a button to start your hack, and you press the same button to end your hack. You can save your ride, name it something if you like, and then check out the statistics on your speed, distance, and time. You can share your rides with friends on the app, or you can also check out rides that others have saved that are geographically near you. For instance, if you’re in Aiken, you should be able to see some of the rides that I’ve recorded through The Hitchcock Woods. If you desire so, you can follow the rides that others have logged, a handy way not to get lost! The app also allows you to add multiple horses to your profile, so that you can track the mileage covered by each one individually. This is handy for figuring out fitness for separate horses throughout the weeks.
