Saturday Video: What It’s Like to Nearly Get Run Over by Bruce Davidson

Kelly Hageman sent us this video from her trip to Rolex in 2009, when Bruce Davidson Sr. and Cruise Lion finished in the top 20 with a clear cross country effort. Kelly found herself in an inconvenient place on course while watching Bruce, and this video is the end result.

“I’ve only been able to attend in person once, in 2009. It was towards the end of cross country, and my friends and I were sitting just outside the ropes at the sheep pen jump. Bruce Davidson and Cruise Lion took the long route and almost ended up coming through the ropes and running us over,” Kelly said.

“I was frantically scooting backwards, but if I had leaned forwards instead, I could have reached out and touched his hooves! Moral of the story — don’t sit down next to the ropes in the potential path of a rider, even if it is the long route and everyone else has been going direct!”

The people sitting next to Kelly took video of the near miss, and it’s definitely one that gives you a very up close and personal shot of what it’s like to have a four-star horse gallop right at you.

Thanks to Kelly for sending in this video — we’re glad this close call was just that!
