I will own up to the fact that when I was a kid I was much more competitive. In my teens, I went in to the show ring with an “I’m here to win this” mentality. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that I’m way less competitive than I used to be. Yes, it’s nice to come home from an event with a pretty ribbon in addition to the memories and the comfortable exhaustion of a weekend well spent. For me though, it’s more and more about the pictures.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m automatically incorporating the cost for at least one of the pro photographer’s shots as well as the tape of my weekend from Ride On Video when I tell my husband what my next event is going to cost. As much as I really think that “kids these days” are missing out on awesome retro things like rust breeches, white rubber reins, clacker bell boots and navajo pads, I do have to admit that I’m jealous that they’re growing up in a world with digital photography.
