Thursday News & Notes from Devoucoux

Boyd Martin and Ying Yang Yo

The big news for me from yesterday was the retirement of Ying Yang Yo. I really enjoyed watching that horse every time he went out on course, and he made such a wonderful comeback last year at Fair Hill, with his old jockey in the irons once again. If Thomas is responsible for bringing Boyd to us, then we should all bow down to him a few times! Here’s some more news from the Boyd camp, with information about all the horses he’s got in England. [Boyd’s Blog]

I really enjoyed watching Jordan Linstedt go around Rolex this year, and was pretty excited for her when she got that big article in the recent USEA magazine. I absolutely loved the way that she handled the competition, knowing exactly what to do with her horse and how to not push him too hard. Her cross country speed was a little…unorthodox….but it was exactly what she needed to get home for her first Rolex over a really tough course. Read an expanded interview here.

This guy…..I don’t want to start anything here, but a certain Anthony Trollope has some pretty strong opinions about guys and girls when it comes to riding. Do you think there is an inherent difference between male and female riders? Why is it that so much of our sport is dominated by women, yet at the upper levels the guys suddenly come out of the woodwork?  Whether you agree with Tony or not, it’s an interesting read regardless. Women Who Ride, As A Rule, Ride Better Than Men

Anybody else here a fan of Michael Pollan? That liberal foodie intellectual guy. The Omnivore’s Dilemma or In Defense of Food? Well, Lauren Spreiser shares my nerdy intrigue with food and nutrition, even if the rest of you don’t. But, seriously, You Are What You Eat. [via COTH]

USEF reports that the High Performance Team is well on their way in England and everyone is skeptical about the sunny weather that seems to be happening. P-Dutty arrives today, and Tiana on Friday. #GoUSEventing

Want to get more involved with USEA? Have a friend who’s a really good candidate for the USEA Board of Governors? Nominations are now open for the 2013 USEA Board. Do not, under any circumstances, nominate John. Seriously. [2013 USEA Board of Governors]

Growing up, I always remember The Chronicle being a regular contributor to my horse addiction. Arriving every week bearing news and pictures, it was truly my fix. This year, COTH celebrates it’s 75th anniversary, and in that spirit, is bringing you seven weeks of a decade-by-decade look at horse sports through time. My, how things have changed, yet stayed the same.

Brazil has announced their 2012 Olympic Team, and I know that a good friend of mine Nicole will be really thrilled to see that Ruy Fonseca has been named! Ruy is one of the nicest guys around, and we met him at the 2010 WEG and have been rooting for him ever since. [Brazilian Olympic Team Named]

BEWARE! Tail cutters are on the loose!! Honestly, I don’t know what kind of person does this, but I would be in full on badger-rage mode if somebody snuck into my stall and cut my horse’s tail off. Who does that!!??
