Tuesday News & Notes from Cavalor

All good things must come to an end, including Manior de Carneville’s winter vacay. Our friend Meg Kep reported that she was “looking forward to watching Tate trying to buck Sinead Halpin off on day one of work post-Burghley,” but things must have gone well because we haven’t seen any Facebook updates from the ER yet, thank goodness.

And now for the rest of your news:

Events opening today: Rocking Horse Winter I H.T. (A-3, FL); Full Gallop Farm H.T (A-3, SC) [2013 Omnibus]

Convention coverage continues:

– Sara Lieser from the Chronicle pens her impressions of the USEA Annual Meeting & Convention, which seem overwhelmingly favorable. “Every rider I spoke to, whether we were out jogging in the pre-dawn hours or conducting a formal interview, was bubbling with excitement,” she writes. “You couldn’t help but be impressed by O’Connor’s innovative ideas and effective leadership.” [COTH]

-The USEA concludes its coverage of the Convention with Josh Walker’s Day 3 video including the Hall of Fame dinner and interviews with Mary King, John Nunn and Allison Springer. [USEA]
Meanwhile, in New Zealand: Positions shifted in the Bell Tea Super League standings following the Puhinui CCI3* last weekend, which marks the halfway point of the year-long series. The event was won by 20-year-old Ashleigh McKinstry, who narrowed the gap between herself and League frontrunner Donna Smith. Simon Gordon rounds out the top three. The next event in the Bell Tea Super League series is the Horse of the Year Show in Hastings in March. [Horse Talk NZ]
USEF News: Three prestigious awards have been announced for 2012, to be received during the Pegasus Awards gala on Jan. 19 at The Henry Clay in Louisville, Ky. Joe Fargis will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; Linda Zang is the recipient of the Pegasus Medal of Honor; and Hunter Chancellor has been named the Junior Equestrian of the Year. At the gala, the USEF will also announce the winner of the Equestrian of the Year Award. [USEF]
‘Tis the season: … for nominating Eventing Nation for a 2012 ESMA (PagePlay Equestrian Social Media Awards) honor. Last year EN was a finalist in the “Most Informative Use of Social Media” and “Best Use of Facebook” categories–this year, let’s go for the win. Nominations opened yesterday and will be accepted through December 21 via the ESMA website. [ESMA]
In passing: Horse trials commentator Justin Llewelyn has passed away at age 59, having suffered a heart attack. He will be best remembered as a commentator at major events including Badminton, Burghley, Bramham, Blenheim, Gatcombe and Chatsworth. He also officiated at the past three Olympic Games as a steward. Our condolences to his friends and family. [H&H]

Best of the Blogs: Laine Ashker was taking some serious notes during the USEA Convention High Performance Meeting. [Laine Ashker’s Competition Journal]

Video: Our thoughts are with Jackie Imholte today following the loss of her promising Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Frolic. Jackie described Frolic as her “best friend and teammate of a lifetime;” together they earned top placings at several novice and training level events, most recently including a 2nd place finish at Fair Hill International Horse Trials in 2011.
