Good morning! I’m still pinching myself to make sure that 2014 is actually almost over. It’s hard to believe, and I know we say that every year but this year seems different somehow. I went through a lot of personal changes, so many that has something to do with it. Either way, it’s still going to be surreal when the clock strikes midnight tomorrow. Ready or not, 2015, here we come! What is your New Year’s Resolution?

News from Around the Globe:

John and Leslie Malone have given a very generous gift, to the tune of $42.5M, to Colorado State University to help develop its regenerative medicine division. The couple felt inclined to give this gift after their own horses went through stem-cell therapy, and their hope is to help fund future research into the practice to help give other horses new options. This is the largest cash donation made to the university since its inception. [CSU Benefits from Generous Gift]

A settlement has been reached in the case of the 22 horses who were poisoned by tainted feed in Florida. A total of six horses have been euthanized due to the poisoning since October. The feed company, Lakeland Animal Nutrition, says that the only feed affected was that sent to this particular farm. Unfortunately, the horses who have survived will continue to suffer ill effects from the poison. [Settlement Reached in Tainted Feed Case]

You may have heard about the fiery ferry fire on the Adriatic Sea that claimed eight lives. Fortunately, show jumper Nick Channing was among the lucky survivors who were rescued. A total of 422 passengers and 56 crew members were aboard the ferry when the car deck caught fire. [Channing Rescued from Ferry Fire]

California Chrome stole America’s hearts this year, and he’s won an award for it. Chrome will receive the Secretariat Vox Populi award, which is handed to “the horse whose popularity and racing excellence best resounded with the American public and gained recognition for Thoroughbred racing.” [Chrome Wins Award for Capturing American Spirit]
