It can happen to anyone. One moment you’re riding your horse around as the rodeo queen at a Utah rodeo, and the next moment your horse gets taken away because of a EHV-1 outbreak and you have to ride a stick pony around. A Salt Lake City television station is reporting that contestants at the Davis County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse Junior Queen Contest had to trot around the arena with stick horses as in place of their normal show ponies for the contest on Thursday night. Former queen Savanna Steed is quoted as saying: “It’s kind of weird, but you can’t really help that the disease is going around.” Safety first Savanna, and that goes for you too Eventing Nation.
