War Horse Wednesday News and Notes from Horse Quencher

Gin N’ Juice and Veronica

I love the holidays. And yes, I am aware December is a long way off. But, as I sat in the movie theater, in my full Harry Potter attire, anxiously awaiting the start of the movie, I found myself dreaming of the holidays. This is probably due to the fact that the holiday movie trailers are now out. One trailer that struck my eye was War Horse. This *WWI set movie looks to be quiet entertaining and fulfilling. Nothing better than a feel good movie that involves a horse. [War Horse]
Speaking of holidays, there is a special holiday every day of the year! This August brings you romance month. But the holidays in romance month aren’t all romantic. Today, August 10, is lazy day. Tomorrow? Presidential joke day. Everyone can thank Ali for all this information. This is what she does in her free time. Her favorite August holiday? The 13- Blame someone else day. Now for some information that will hopefully be more worthwhile than anything above…
With the AEC’s not far away, the excitement is building. Kim Parisan shares with the eventing community her road to the AEC. While that road hasn’t exactly been the route she was planning on, she is excited to be going. A suspensory injury to her horse and a back injury to herself have left her holding the honorable groom position. Kim’s daughter, Madeline will be carrying on in the stirrups to hopefully have a successful competition. [Road to the AEC]
Speaking of championships, five countries have applied to stage the European Eventing Championships in 2015. Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, The Netherlands and Poland will all battle it out for the host position. However, this time around, there will be a new bidding process. The objective of the new bid process is “to raise the profile of the FEI European Championships by selecting candidates able to deliver sporting events at the highest quality.” The bidding process started in March of this year and will continue till April 2012. Get to know Burghley bound, Gin & Juice just a little bit better. Find out about her love for living out, cross country, and bucking Hawley off. Even better? This little tom boy knows how to get dirty and then clean up with the best of them. Don’t forget to purchase your hat in support of this fantastic, little mare and her awesome rider. [How well do you know Gin &
The Adventures of Meg Kep just never get old. In her latest blog entry, Meg talks about her journey to England. Thank goodness Meg has had good entertainment on her journey. Check out her blog to learn about her adventures. Everything from learning about the lorry driver’s personal life, to keeping Tate under control. I would love to be there when Meg shares with Sinead why Tate has been shot by a sniper. Now you should really check out her blog. P.S. Meg, I loved decoding your Mac language. GB’s Gemma Tattersall plans to swim the length of the English Channel. Gemma will be swimming 1,416 lengths of a 25 meter pool to raise money for the spinal charity, Aspire. She must complete the distance between September 12 and December 12. Gemma decided to do this after a friend of hers was injured in April of this year. You can go through Horse and Hound to help support Gemma’s swim. [Aspire]
Get a look inside the 2011 Pan American Games. American’s are excited for the Pan Am’s. Not only is it a chance to qualify for the Olympics, it gives the US a chance to send a younger team to gain experience. As far as the safety concern with Mexico (drug cartel, yikes!), Brian Sabo says that there are always sharks in the water. Extra safety precautions will be taken. Mexico is aware of the increased amount of eyes on them at this time and will be taking every step possible to create a safe games for everyone involved. [Pan Ams]
