Hello, EN! As of today, we are exactly one week away from the jogs in Normandy. Right now, our team is diligently training in Chantilly, while the Canadians are hard at work at Maizey Manor. And I’m kind of hating the US team right now because it’s always been my dream to gallop on a real racetrack. In front of a castle. On a unicorn. I’d settle for two out of three.

Meanwhile, over in the States, we have a big competition weekend at Richland for everyone who wasn’t sent over to Europe. Because Buck, Boyd, and Phillip are over in France, they can’t bring their usual fifteen horses a piece over to Michigan. Despite numbers in the CIC3* and Advanced divisions being down, enthusiasm is up! Competitors are arriving today, and dressage gets underway tomorrow in the FEI divisions. Stay tuned for more coverage as the weekend progresses.

Go Richland, go WEG, and go eventing!

Today’s News and Notes:

Sadly, Caroline Atherholt McClung’s four star campaigner Lazy Dot was euthanized last weekend due to infirmities of old age. Lazy Dot and Caroline (formerly Caroline Dowd) competed at Rolex and Badminton together in the late nineties. Lazy Dot was Mare of the Year in 1999. Be sure to share fond memories of Lazy Dot with Caroline on her farm’s Facebook Page. [Red Fox Hill Farm]

Cindy DePorter is jumping through hoops to attend the Adult Team Challenge at the Nutrena USEA AECs. Cindy hails from Area II and has decided that she and her horse Drop the Buck will be making the trek to Tyler to compete for Area II. As a technical delegate herself, Cindy has a crazy schedule but is lining up all her ducks to make sure she can attend. Check out your own Area Adult Rider program to see if you qualify to be on a team! The Adult Team Challenge runs concurrently with the AECs, and is a great option if you want to attend but didn’t quite get the placings you needed for the AECs. [ATC at AECs]

SmartPak wants to show you how a pro keeps their tack room organized. In the most recent SmartPak Blog entry, Karla Galasso of Holly Hill Farm in Massachusetts shows us how she organizes a tack room that serves 40+ horses, with boarders and lesson horses alike. It may be a hunter/jumper farm, but I think that organization is essential to any equestrian operation that wants to be successful. [Keep Your Tack Room Organized]

Emily King is recovering after a nasty fall at the Junior European Championships last weekend. Emily and her mount Brookleigh fell when Brookleigh put a front leg through an elephant trap. Luckily, the frangible pin did its job and both Emily and Brookleigh escaped serious injury. Initially, Emily was thought to have suffered a fractured pelvis, but instead was released from the hospital with torn muscles and severe bruising. The pair had recently finished seventh at Barbury CIC3*. Photos of the frangible pin functioning during the fall can be found in the article. [Emily King Recovering]

SmartPak Product of the Day: After a full season of hearing “Loose horse!” at every show and doing the the red-faced walk of shame with him back to his stall, I decided I needed more than just a stall chain. After scouring a dozen websites, I found this custom nylon stall guard on SmartPak. It’s foldable, it’s durable, it comes in cool custom colors, and best of all, it has kept  my horse securely in his stall ever since! [SmartPak]

Today’s video is a preview for the 2015 FEI European Championships, which will be held at Blair Castle. Take a look to watch lots of slow motion galloping, jumping, dressage, course walking, grooming, feeding, and announcers talking. There’s also a rider in a kilt at the jogs. You’re welcome.
