With his fourth-place finish at Burghley this weekend with Bay My Hero, William Fox-Pitt clinched the FEI Classics win for the 2013-2014 season.

The FEI Classics series awards $120,000 in prize money to the top five point earners at the following events each year:

1. Les Etoiles de Pau – October, 23-27 2013

2. Australian International 3-Day Event – November 14-17, 2013

3. Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event – April 23-27, 2014

4. Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials – May 8-11, 2014

5. Luhmühlen CCI4* – June 12-15 2014

6. Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials – September 4-7, 2014

Points are awarded on a rider’s best performance at a given event (a rider with multiple entries would only earn points for their best result), and points are tracked throughout the season to determine the winner of the $40,000 first place prize.

This year, William’s win at both Pau and Rolex boosted him above second place finisher Sam Griffiths (1st – Badminton, 3rd – Burghley) with a total of 38 points. Sam earned 25 points for the $35,000 second prize.

The top five point earners for the 2013-2014 season are:

1. William Fox-Pitt – 38

2. Sam Griffiths – 25

3. Oliver Townend – 23

4. Andrew Nicholson – 21

5. Tim Price – 17

Phillip Dutton is the highest ranked U.S. rider on the list, ranked seventh with 15 points. You can view the full standings and learn more about the FEI Classics series by clicking here.
