Rebecca Howard and Roquefort are excited for a CIC2* recap

Rebecca Howard and Roquefort galloping for home, or are they hovering?

Rebecca Howard and Roquefort were held for a few minutes on course but that didn’t stop them from jumping a great round to maintain their lead in the CIC2* here at Jersey Fresh.  With 8.8 time penalties, they lost much of their 7 point dressage lead, but they only have one pair within a rail of them going into the show jumping–Kadi Eyecamp and Double Rivers Really Cool.

CIC2* Results:

1. Rebecca Howard and Roquefort +8.8  52.4
2. Kadi Eykamp and Doube Rivers Really Cool +4  54.7
3. Arden Wildasin and Powderhound +0  56.6
4. Phillip Dutton and Young Man +9.2  61.8
5. Lainey Ashker and Rising Spirit +0  61.9
6. Will Coleman and Obos O’Reilly +6.8  62.7
7. Stephen Bradley and In the Fog +13.2  62.9

–Shanon Baker had the most significant fall of the day, with a tumble over the big oxer at #18 in the CIC2*.  The horse walked back to the vet box and Shanon took a ride back to the Jersey Fresh medical area in the front seat of a small ambulance with no severe injuries.  She did go to the hospital after that with what I am told was some hip pain, but apparently Shanon did not really want to go and it doesn’t seem like anything major at this point.

Arden Wildasin had a super day today that culminated with a double-clear in the CIC2*.  Arden had double-clears on her two horses, one in the CCI2* and the other in the CIC2*.  The only other rider to finish with two double-clears was Boyd Martin.

–Lainey Ashker had the only other double-clear in the CIC2*, with a very efficient round on Rising Spirit.

–Statistically, the CIC2* rode pretty well.  Of 25 starters there were 2 falls, 2 retires, 1 elimination due to 3 refusals, 4 riders with stops, and 16 clear rides, with three double-clears.

–Doug Payne had a random fall in the CIC2* at the drop off the island.  Everything looked perfect over the drop and then Camerlingo just fell on landing.  The next horse through almost did the same so my guess is there might have been a hole forming on the landing.

–With just 6 rider falls and only one that I would consider severe, there’s no doubt that this was a really safe day at Jersey.  I know a lot of people will talk about that water complex, but at the end of the day everyone walked home which is the most important thing for a course design.

–The good news for everyone who had a bad day today in the CCI divisions, is that Bromont is just a few weeks away, and I suspect that we will see a few CCI horses and quite a few CIC horses back in action there.

–I want to give a shout out to Mother Nature for holding off just long enough.  A light rain started just as the last few riders were on course, but the weather was absolutely perfect for cross-country today.

–More and more of the riders are riding XC with sponsor logos, especially SmartPak, on their sleeves and britches.  This trend will get more and more popular and I would guess that next year a bunch of riders will be repping their sponsors on their clothes around the XC.

–Last, but not least I want to give a shout out to the layer of snow 4 feet under the ground that kept the footing moist, soft, and fluffy today, which won’t make sense unless you were at the rider briefing yesterday.

–That’s all I have for now folks.  If you get your Marmaduke on tonight, keep it safe.  We’ll see everyone bright and early for the jog, which the provisional schedule has starting at 8am.

Go eventing.
