‘Welcome to Eventing’ is the newest of all the series here on Eventing Nation, and was the brain child of one of our readers. The objective of the series is to chronicle the stories of either your first event, or the first event your horse competed at. This week’s story is about Hannah Metz, and tells the story of her journey into the world of Eventing. Thanks to Hannah’s Mom for submitting, and as always, thank you for reading. If you’d like to submit the story of your first event, please send it along with a picture to [email protected].

From Hannah’s Mom:
My daughter Hannah has always loved horses. Was there life before eventing? Sure but it was not as sweet! Hannah did 4H and some hunter equitation before she was consumed by the sport of eventing.
At Fair Hill in the fall of 2008 we met Molly Rosin. Hannah started riding with Molly that fall.
She went cross country schooling with Molly at Fair Hill the spring of 2009 and she was hooked! She did many of the Area II Starter Trials that season.
The road has been a bumpy ride the last 2 years. She lost 2 horses to cancer, had a summer with a great schoolmaster called No Worries, finished in the ribbons at her first recognized event, and is now training her 5 yr old OTTB mare under Molly’s guidance.
At age fifteen, Hannah is a full time working student with Molly. She is home schooled so she can be at the barn 6 days a week. She was able to spend the winter in Aiken and grooms for Molly. I cannot say enough about the importance of a good–no amazing trainer. Molly has truly changed our lives. The eventing world in general has impressed me. What a wonderful group that comes together to support each other on a daily basis!
