The four Thoroughbreds participating in the Retired Racehorse Training Project’s 100-Day Challenge will appear for their final evaluation next week at the PA Horse World Expo. It doesn’t seem like much time has passed since we first met the four superstars — Declan’s Moon, Alluring Punch, Suave Jazz and Gunport — and fans started picking their favorite Thoroughbred. We first saw all but Gunport — who was sidelined with a hock injury — in action last month at the Maryland Horse World Expo, and now comes the final test.
Steuart Pittman recently announced the three judges who will decide which Thoroughbred takes home the top prize. The judges are: Nick Karazissis, a leading hunter/jumper trainer from California who grew up riding Thoroughbreds; Bev Strauss, eventer, racehorse trainer, and director of MidAtlantic Horse Rescue, one of the country’s oldest and most respected Thoroughbred placement organizations; and Donnan Jones, a dressage guru to international eventers for decades, Olympic dressage rider and wife of legendary Throughbred bloodstock agent Russell Jones.
