Badminton at your fingertips

I knew there would come a day that I would be rewarded for my dedication to my iphone, and yes, that day has come! Badminton Horse Trials, arguably the world’s premier three day event, has broken new ground again by becoming the first event in the world to have it’s own mobile phone app.

Produced in association with HSBC as part of their HSBC FEI Classics sponsorship, what it does is basically give you everything to do with Badminton in an easy, pretty package all on your iphone.
As you’d expect, it’s perfect in every way, and will allow me, and every iphone user, to become a walking, talking Badminton bore encyclopedia from now until the event is over, and probably for ever more.
The app is linked to the live results so it’s updated instantly with the very latest scores. But wait there’s more…so much more!
The latest news, and an animated course guide with photos of each jump, and the quick and long route at the more complicated combinations.  Vital information such as start times, weather, an exhaustive shopping guide with handy map.  Live radio will be available once the event starts but until then enjoy the podcasts, or watch some of the videos in the library, including a brand new course walk of the 2011 cross country with designer Hugh Thomas and British Team rider Sharon Hunt.
The results will be exhaustive – detailed dressage test, cross country fence analysis, both vets’ inspections etc.

There will be official Badminton photos uploaded, and everything is easy to share via facebook or twitter, so that your poor blackberry friends don’t feel too left out!
Badminton will even send you text alerts so you don’t miss anything important ie. “The cross country is about to start”.
I urge you to download it immediately, and start getting even more excited about the event. Once you have the app installed, don’t expect to get any work done, the house cleaned or anything else accomplished. You will however become a Badminton expert. Badminton will be constantly updating the app, so check your itunes regularly.
In the meantime,  the beauty of it is that I can be anywhere, doing almost anything, and still be up to date at all times. I love that! It’s a new media dream come true. Thank you HSBC, Thank you Badminton, Thank you Iphone, and thank you for reading. Next year I’m hoping they’ll take pity on the crackberry and other mobile phone users and develop something for them too. Until then, Go Eventing!
