Thank Goodness the weather cooperated today, and there was a good turn-out for the jumper show and cross-country schooling at Masterson Station Park. The lady I spoke to this afternoon had taken about 60 entries for schooling, and the pony club had seen a lot more at the other end, and the jumper show entries were about on a par with last year. What’s new this year was their celebrity announcer, trying to slip under the radar and go incognito in sunglasses and a hat, but that booming voice is undisguisable!
GlennyGlenn the Geek!
There were all sorts of people out enjoying themselves, as well as doing some serious training.
Cathy Wieschoff was busy, Diana Rich had bought a crew down from Cincinnati, and Alston Kerr, fairy godmother of the Kentucky Horse Park was on her lovely horse that she had at the Stephen Bradley clinic last spring.
Also spotted, sport horse vet Dr Duncan Peters, who so kindly explained shock wave therapy to me last week, on a humane society thoroughbred rescue, at it’s first show.
It was a treat to bump into Catherine Donworth, her gorgeous daughter, Shannon, and the versatile and long-suffering Skippy the wonderpony! Catherine is a small animal vet here in Lexington, but far more importantly will be returning this year to Rolex as an outrider.
Skippy won the lead line class, took two seconds in the jumpers, and also cleared some of the training level cross country jumps while schooling – a very good day indeed! Look out for him and Catherine, and go and say hello on the cross country at Rolex.
Check out Shannon’s cool saddle that was lent to Catherine by a client:
Seems like you don’t see many of these around any more.
Thank you for talking to us, and have fun at Rolex. Well done to all the riders who turned up today, I think everyone had fun. Leo, the kids and I certainly enjoyed watching, even though Lily and I were both hankering after ponies of our own! One of these days…
