Springtime in Kentucky

A chance meeting at Masterson Station with my close friend Cathy Sweezy was a wonderful surprise today. Her farm, Timbertown Stables, is just down the road, and she was hacking a couple of thoroughbreds around, getting them accustomed to the hustle and bustle. While we stood chatting idly in the sun, as gals do (!), her husband Wayne texted her with the news that something even better than an owlet falling out of a tree had just happened, and that she might want to hurry home.  She did, and this is what she found waiting for her….

Cathy told me that it’s the best possible scenario for a foal to be born outside, with less germs and bugs than in a stall, and they’ll often move a mare to a paddock to foal if at all possible.

Thank you so much for sharing these with us, it makes me happy to live in Kentucky!
Incidentally, Cathy always has the coolest gadgets and things. (She gave me a great bungee for my horse when I still had him, and this Christmas I got THE warmest socks ever from her). Today I noticed these very cool, very safe, “links” (not sure what to call them?) on her trailer.

You can tie your horse to them safely and they eliminate the need for unsightly baler twine. Have you seen or used these before? I thought they were a terrific idea. Trust Cathy!
Thanks for everything, Cathy, it was wonderful to catch up today, I always learn something new. Thanks for reading, and Go eventing in the spring!
