Monica Spencer and Valkyrie pick up the Maryland 3 Star victory this weekend.
The lead in the Maryland 3 Star CCI3*-L once more changed hands at the final moment, when overnight leaders Sharon White and Anita Antenucci’s Arden Augustus had one pesky rail at fence 10 and dropped into second. This opened the door for New Zealand’s Monica Spencer and Ken Quigley’s Valkyrie to take home the win on the heels of their double clear round just before. The win caps off a big season for this 9-year-old New Zealand-bred mare, who stepped up to the Advanced level this season and has already picked up a win at the CCI4*-S level. This result also improves on the pair’s eighth place at Tryon’s CCI3*-L this spring. Caroline Pamukcu and Gayle Davis/Sherrie Martin’s HSH Talbots Hill moved steadily up all weekend after starting in seventh, finishing in third on a score of 32.6.
