A View From My Horse: Southern Pines

This week’s “ears” photo is coming to us from the beautiful Carolinas. Aiken gets a lot attention as the “place to be” for the winter circuit in the Carolina region, but Southern Pines has a lot to offer as well. The town is about as quaint as it gets, and the Southern Pines Horse Trials is my favorite event of the entire season. Thanks to Michele for submitting, and thank you for reading.

From Michele:

My name is Michele Lobsinger and this is the view from my horse, Able Sportsfield, in Southern Pines, NC.  This is a unique spot in our area because it is where the “old” Stoneybrook Steeplechase use to take place back in the day. Apparently, from what I have heard, this was the biggest party in town back then for young and old alike. Most of this land is now broken down into 10 and 20 acre farms, but some if it is still owned by the original owners, the Walsh family. The land is adjacent to the Walthour Moss Foundation where the original Southern Pines Horse Trials was first run.  Of course, now the famous Stoneybrook Steeplechase and Southern Pines’ Horse Trials are now both held at the Beautiful Carolina Horse Park every Spring.  I am most fortunate to live across the street from this property and to lease a small barn overlooking the land. Pretty nice way to start out your ride everyday!
