Our hearts are heavy this morning as the eventing world reels from the loss of Apache Sauce, Mary King’s indomitable partner for many years, who was put down after suffering an injury at Weston Park CCI2*. Apache Sauce, owned by Gillian Jonas, completed 10 four-star events clear on cross-country in his career with Mary, who decided to retire him in May after the 16-year-old gelding seemed hesitant at drop fences and when galloping downhill. Apache Sauce had been competing with Mary’s daughter, Emily, since his retirement. The pair completed five events together with clear cross-country trips and finished in the top 10 three times. Eventing Nation sends our deepest condolences to all those connected to Apache Sauce.
