BHT 2011 XC Preview: William Fox-Pitt at the Sunken Lake

Unbelievably, William Fox-Pitt has only won Badminton once  – in 2004 on Tamarillo, but he has two Armada dishes for five completions, and is listed in the programme as ” to be presented” with his third in 2011, which frankly if I was the superstitious type, would make me downright nervous!  As well as being a member of the reigning Gold medal WEG team, and silver medalist individually, he’s also won Burghley an amazing five times on five different horses.

Here he walks us through how he’s going to ride the Sunken Lake with Navigator and Cool Mountain. Look out for a cameo by Rodney Powell who won in 1991 on The Irishman. Yes, it’s definitely him, we had it confirmed by our oracle, Hilary Manners of www.eventingworldwide.com, who can also name William’s five Burghley winners off the top of her head. Thanks again, Hilary, bug you later!
William is not only of the best, but also one of the most polite, friendly and accomodating riders around. While we walked back from the sunken lake, he was stopped several times for autographs, and people wanting to chat, and he was unfailingly polite and engaged, despite having to have a printed schedule to manage his time due to his riding and other commitments during the week. Thanks for squeezing us in, William, and go cross country and go eventing!
