With Visionaire’s return to Eventing Nation, we thought it only fitting to bring back a popular column she created and managed last year. Lower level Event Rider Profiles, as they came to be known, quickly became a hit when they graced the EN homepage February of 2010. In no time, there was a large backlog of profiles from people all across the country. Because Visionaire’s many other commitments prevent her from continuing with the series, I will manage it for the time-being.
This year, the series has a slight new twist. Instead of being limited to only lower level riders, I’d like to open it up so that anyone related in anyway to Eventing can submit a profile. We love to hear from riders- juniors, amateurs, and professionals alike, but this series will also include people like volunteers, horse show parents, organizers, course designers, veterinarians etc.. It’s a pretty well known fact that the support team behind a horse and rider pair far outnumbers the horse and rider themselves, so it seems only fair to open the column to those individuals as well.
Probably most exciting of the Eventing Profile’s return is that the first few profiles sent in will receive an autographed copy of Jimmy Wofford’s brand new book. It’s called “Cross-Country with Jim Wofford: 26 Lessons to Improve Your Eventing Skills from the Olympic Rider and Top Coach.” It comes with a cool DVD where Jimmy takes you to fences at Fair Hill, analyzes how each fence should be ridden and then comments on how certain horse and rider pairs negotiate them during the competition. It won’t be available to buy until Rolex, where it will debut at his book signing.
