The CCI * got us underway this morning at Bromont at 8:30, and Penny Rowland was the perfect pathfinder, posting a lovely clear round. I took random photos and video as I walked around, but was really impressed all day by Will Coleman, who rode mature, professional rounds on all his horses, moving quickly away from the fences, keeping up relentless rhythm and never looking like he was going fast at all despite only adding to 2.4 time penalties to his leading dressage score in the CCI*, and nothing to both his 2* rides.
Lee-Lee Jones was also very stylish through the coffin, easily holding her own following Buck Davidson and Ian Roberts. They should all be on the video somewhere!

Derek’s courses rode, for the most part, really well all day, and encouraged good riding. It was a treat to watch all day, and during the brief time I spent watching some of the horses being cooled off after finishing I was really impressed by how quickly they recovered, and how good they all looked. As always, many thanks to the volunteers who worked a long day, in varying temperatures, but with constant cheeriness. Big up to the course designer, Derek di Grazia, we’ll have a brief interview with him later, and to course builder Jay Hambly and his crew, who were heading into the woods as I left to blow off steam with an arsenal of assorted weapons – paintball. Boys will be boys! Thanks for reading, tuck your horses in, or out tonight, and get ready to go eventing again tomorrow!
