Casper’s Wednesday Reader from Horse Quencher

When I leave Eventing Nation someday and hand over the reins to the EN Team and chinchillas, my perhaps ethereal hope is that eventing will be at least slightly better off as a result of Eventing Nation.  Maybe we will understand the perspective of other members of the eventing community better, or perhaps we won’t take ourselves quite so seriously after watching so many bunny jumping videos, but my biggest hope is that we will all remember just a little more that there are many things more important in this world.  Jon Holling explained how he reached that understanding in his excellent guest blog post yesterday.  If you haven’t visited Eventing Nation since yesterday morning then 1) WTF? and 2) scroll past these news and notes and just read Jon’s post; there’s not much news this morning anyway.  If you have already read Jon’s blog, then here are what some would call news and notes…

Morning update: The June 5th GVRDC Horse Trials in NY is canceled due to too much rain on the XC course

–As a quick good news note for all of the Kyle Carter fans out there, Jen told me that Kyle will be returning to eventing this weekend at Chattahoochee Hills.  He will be riding both ‘Chances Are’ in the CIC** and Parker in the OI.  It’s great to see Kyle and Parker back in action after their tumble at Red Hills.

–The Pan American Games entry list continues to grow and a few names have been added since our last posting of the list.  A short list will be named sometime after Bromont with more names probably being added after Rebecca Farm and my guess is that the final selection trials will be at Richland, in Michigan.  The application deadline is July 1st.  [Applicant List PDF]

“My Kingdom for an Honest Trainer”

–The FEI has sent out sad news that Mr. Roland Desourdy passed away late last month.  Mr. Desourdy founded the city of Bromont and is responsible in many ways for bringing the Olympics to Bromont, without which we would likely not have the wonderful spring three-day.  The attendance at his funeral was reportedly so large that they erected a tent in the church grounds with a giant screen for those who were unable to get into the church.  [FEI]

The USEA’s press release about Spring Gulch being canceled

–Today’s ‘people going straight to hell’ award goes to these two classy fellows who are suspected to have abandoned a malnourished, bruised and partially blind horse in a rural western area of Riverside County, California.  Thanks to an eye whitness who alerted police, the horse was found with the use of a police helicopter.  [Horsetalk]

–TheHorse.com is reporting that the number of confirmed or suspected EHV-1 infections is on the rise.  In situations like this it is always tough to understand how much something is spreading especially because people are prone to be dramatic and exaggerate.  Vets who treat horses who have likely come into contact with the virus are taking precautions such as quarantining the horses.  [TheHorse.com, about EHV-1

Time for a little Fair Hill spring HT relapse:

That’s all for now.  Stay tuned throughout the day for your eventing news and ridiculousness.  As always, wherever you might be, thanks for making Eventing Nation part of your day.  Stay classy Eventing Nation.
