Columbus Day News and Notes from Fleeceworks

We had a couple weeks of perfect riding weather and now we’re staring down another week of nothing but rain. We discovered during the last hurricane that my horse’s old sheet maybe wasn’t so waterproof anymore and his new one arrived just in the nick of time for Tropical Storm Nate. We’ve been getting Flash Flood warnings all day but there are people and animals suffering far worse. Stay safe, friends.

Monday News and Notes:

17-year-old Polo trainer Charlie Caldwell entered the Retired Racehorse Project on a whim. His mare Old Tavern was crowned both the winner of the Polo division and the 2017 America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred. The judges were so impressed by the young Thoroughbred that one offered to buy her. [America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred]

It was a weird day when my little sister learned how to text message GIFs. My phone blew up with mini-clips of horses galloping along beaches and posing majestically in wildflower scattered fields. But at least her horses GIFs were pretty. These are just… creepy. [This is what happens when you type ‘horse’ in a GIF search bar]

The FEI has partnered with China National Sports International (CNSI), a sports and entertainment company that specializes in equestrian sports in China, to develop e-sport, e-commerce and social media presence to boost the growing interest of horses in China, which has the world’s second largest horse population. The oncoming winter months may present riding challenges for those of us who experience frozen ground and falling snow. Take into careful consideration how your horse’s muscles, joints and respiratory system handle the cold and be sure to look out for your own comfort and safety, too.
