Indie looking very proud of himself while Jennie wipes her nose, which is exactly what I've been doing all morning. It's a breezy day!
We’re underway in the CCI2* here at Fair Hill. CCI2* dressage and the Young Event Horse Championships are running concurrently in parallel rings, making for a busy warm-up area. We’ve had 16 horses go so far in dressage in the CCI2*. Susan Beebee and Wolf set the bar high with a 40.8 to take the lead. Jennie Brannigan and Indie looked fantastic in their test and are holding second on a 43.9. Will Coleman and Zipp are sitting in third on a 45.8; always the showman, Will tipped his top hat to the crowd after finishing his test.
There’s definitely tension in the air at the fall’s premier event. When Darrah Alexander, first to go, passed me after finishing her ride on South Park, she breathed a giant sigh of relief and said, “Thank God that’s over.” David O’Connor was keeping a close eye on the action this morning. I spotted him talking shop with Boyd Martin early on in the order of go while I was eavesdropping walking by. The morning tests thus far have been lovely; it’s clear the CCI2* riders are really bringing their A-game.
We have some heavy hitters going after the break, with Phillip Dutton and Fernhill Fugitive leading off. Still to come this afternoon are Clayton Fredericks and Pigrela Des Cabanes, Buck Davidson and No More Rocks and Sally Cousins and Ideal Contini. Stay tuned for much more from Fair Hill.
