Hannah Sue Burnett made a big statement this afternoon, earning a 43 with Harbour Pilot to rocket into first place by more than five points in the CCI3* dressage at Fair Hill. Heather Gillette and Our Questionnaire now sit in second place on a 48.6 and Jan Byyny and Inmidair have been bumped to third on a 49.8. Light rain continues to fall on and off, making spectacting difficult for the many people who have flocked to Fair Hill. But we press on.
Hannah Sue was first into the ring for the third of four groups of riders in the CCI3*. It was really a lovely test, with Harbour Pilot looking a little argumentative at times, but still remaining very obedient. Leslie Law and Zenith ISF were next in the order of go. The horse was sticky on the first change and had a bit of a moose moment, but the second change looked much better, for a score of 51.8 to move into sixth place. Sally Cousins struggled to keep hold of Tsunami III. The mare was full of herself and Sally rode like a pro, particularly in keeping the counter canter. Sally had to really put on the breaks coming down the center line for the final salute, but she hung on for a 61.

- Jennie Brannigan and No Objection
A First Romance came into the ring looking very lathered, with Selena O’Hanlon fighting to keep the lid on throughout the test. The horse bucked in the canter circle and was clearly feeling good. Their geometry was a little off in the canter serpentine; the two scored a 63. Phillip Dutton really had to work to get the changes on Fernhill Flutter, but he powered through for a score of 53.2 to sit in eighth provisionally. Holly Payne and Madeline were next in the ring. The two has a small miscommunication in the serpentines, when Madeline broke to the trot. The mare also stumbled coming out of the extended canter, finishing for a score of 63.2
Jennie Brannigan had a test she’d like to forget with No Objection. The horse broke to the canter numerous times during the trot work and when it finally came time to canter, he picked up the wrong lead. Her grimace at the end of the test said it all; their sitting on a 66.6 — ironic score, anyone? Jan Byyny and Syd Kent performed a very obedient test for a 56.2. We’re now heading into the fourth and final group. Keep up with the live scores here.
