It’s Monday Eventing Nation! The troops have headed home from Arizona, and life is returning to normal. I didn’t get to attend the convention this year, but I am definitely looking forward to hearing the stories from it. Whenever that many event riders get together for a weekend, especially when they aren’t competing (not that it stops them when they are), there is bound to be plenty of Marmaduke behavior to go around, to quote the infamous Oli. Who knows, the convention party stories may even beat out the WEG ones, I doubt it though.
And onto the news that’s hopefully somewhat relevant and appropriate:
The World Cup Show was held in Geneva over the weekend. Kevin Staut won the title for France, but Canadian Eric Lamaze was a close second. The riders pictured above, Marcus Ehning, Hugo Simon, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, and Rodrigo Pessoa all competed as well. I’m convinced that because Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum possesses such amazing show jumping prowess, she is forever exempt from helmet hair. Or she employs a traveling hair stylist.
Congratulations to Eventing Nation’s Katie Lindsay for winning the prestigious Wofford Cup at the USEA convention. The award was given at the awards luncheon and recognizes Katie’s extraordinary contribution to the eventing community. I can’t wait for Katie’s Marmaduke interview.

The weed of the month is Bush Honeysuckle
And even more show jumping news: Swiss gets bronze medal two years after the Olympics. At least the Swiss riders got the hoped-for outcome, but after two years of court delegations and tribulations, I’m sure the medals hang much heavier around their necks.
For what seems like the thousandth time in the past few weeks, yet another horse abuse scandal is surfacing. Over one hundred horses have been seized from an Arkansas farm for protection and rehabilitation. Its excellent that these horses have been seized, but how on earth did there get to be 100 abused and neglected horses in a small county and no one noticed until now? I hope whoever was responsible for these horses gets appropriate repercussions for their cruel actions, and they get the opposite of EN Karma for the rest of their lives.
The Pilot wrote a touching article about the passing earlier this week of young eventer Colin Davidson. Colin’s death has affected many in the eventing community, as he was a talented upper-level competitor and friend to many.
Kentucky Racetracks implementing Equine Piroplasmosis Testing starting January 1st. The Jurga Report has the story.
That’s all for now. When I last talked to John, he was stranded in Chicago due to snow storms. Hopefully he will make his second flight and get back to the headquarters, but either way, he’ll have something exciting to post later on today.
Go Eventing.
