Monday News & Notes from Morven Park Fall International

We’d like to dedicate this Monday morning to all of team USA for their silver medal finish at the FEI Eventing Nations Cup at Arville (Belgium), but also in particular to one Lauren Nicholson, who won the individual CCIO4*-S title with Ms. Jacqueline Mars’ Larcot Z. Lauren, who won the CCI4*-L at MARS Bromont in June, has long been fond of this horse, formerly produced by Reagen Lafleur and Will Coleman, and has always known something special lay within. This win, a rare occasion for a U.S. rider in Europe (Will Coleman would be the last rider to win a big ticket European 4*-S, when he won CHIO Aachen with Off the Record in 2021), carries a lot of weight, and with next year’s World Championships coming up in almost exactly a year, Lauren’s got herself well on the radar of team selectors.

We’ll be catching up with Lauren soon here on EN, so stay tuned for more!

Most of the time, fear revolves around the conscious or subconscious absence of control. It’s a relatable topic for all of us, and there ARE ways to help manage this fear. For some, this starts with breathing techniques. It may sound a bit strange, but don’t know it until you try it! Read more in this excerpt posted on USEA.

Oftentimes, horses seem to want more of a “challenge” when they’re learning how to jump. We hear it often: a rider tells a tale of how their horse didn’t seem to take jumping seriously until the jumps went up. But it’s not just about height. What are some ways you can teach your horse to pick up the damn feet and try a little? (Joking, sort of). Grand prix jumper Wilhelm Genn has some advice for you here.

Now this is an awesome story to start your week with! Meet McCaulley, a pony who just placed in his first event at the age of 28 — and that’s not even the best part of the story! In a very roundabout fashion after being sold many years ago, McCaulley found his way back to his original owner, Laura Ferguson, after several years apart. Since then, McCaulley has all but refused to retire and as a result spends his time bringing his lease riders along as burgeoning equestrians. Read more of this sweet story here.
