Neville Bardos, Boyd Martin’s courageous mount who twice cheated death, will be inducted into the new Horse Stars Hall of Fame in March. Established by the USEF and EQUUS Foundation, this new Hall of Fame seeks to honor notably talented horses and the powerful bond they share with their riders. Neville adds this lastest honor to his long list of accomplishments, including taking top honors as USEF International Horse of the Year in 2012. Boyd recently indicated that Neville is being treated for arthritis in his neck, which led to a lackluster finish to the horse’s 2012 season. We’re excited to see Neville out and about in 2013 and wish the horse and Boyd all the best this season. Go Neville!
The EQUUS Foundation and the USEF recently established a Horse Stars Hall of Fame “to celebrate the extraordinary talent of horses and the magical and powerful bond between horses and people.”We are excited to announce that we have just been notified that Neville Bardos will be one of the inaugural inductees in the Athletes category of the Horse Stars Hall of Fame, along with all the USEF Horses of Honor recognized annually since the establishment of the USEF Horse of the Year (HOTY) awards program in 2005.
The inaugural inductions and the unveiling of the virtual Horse Stars Hall of Fame website will take place at the EQUUS Foundation’s “fête cheval étoile” event. The event will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida, and include a photo gallery of the inductees accompanied by the stories of their achievements.
Update: We just received word from Max Corcoran that the late Theodore O’Connor will also be inducted into the Horse Stars Hall of Fame. The 14.1-hand Shetland/Arabian/Thoroughbred cross is remembered for winning both individual and team gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2007, as well as his spectacular third-place finish at Rolex that same year. Teddy was euthanized in May 2008 after a freak accident, but we will not soon forget the special pony who stole the hearts of countless people. Congrats to Team O’Connor, Wynn Norman and all of the people who knew and loved Teddy.
