I love the fact that care is so simple. Hair and dust brush right off of the smooth fabric. And, I can easily toss the Horse Play Vest in for a wash cold and tumble dry low. It’s a little sad that we’ve reached the time of the year when the trees have lost their leaves. At this point, most of them are bare and lonely looking. The once colorful red, yellow and orange leaves are now in crunchy dull piles on the ground.

Some days are warm, some days are cool, but I’m still spending as much time in the saddle as possible. Keeping light layering pieces as a part of my riding wardrobe is essential. Because at this point in the year, I need to be able to mix and match.

Dressing to stay comfortable in varying temperatures is key. And one of my go to layering pieces is often a vest. Simply put, I like vests because they do a nice job at keeping my core warm. And I also like my arms and shoulders having freedom of movement.

This season, one of the vests that I’ve found myself wearing again and again (and again) is the Horse Play Quilted Equestrian Vest from Kerrits. The Horse Play Vest has been a favorite of mine since I zipped it up for the very first time.

What are some of my favorite features of the Horse Play Vest? I love how toasty warm and bulk free the vest is … and that’s all thanks to the high tech poly loft fill. And I simply adore the exclusive horse pattern that is quilted into the fabric.

The Horse Play Vest also has two size zip pockets that are terrific for storing my phone, chapstick, and other essentials when I'm out riding. Photo by Lorraine Peachey.

Since the Horse Play Vest is without bulk, it provides me with a look that is both slim and flattering. And I can’t help but love the combination of the embroidered horses, along with the chevrons that run down both sides of the vest.

The front of the Horse Play Vest has a sturdy feeling zipper, that has a cute Kerrits logo on the pull tab. There are also two size zip pockets that are terrific for storing my phone, chapstick, and other essentials when I’m out riding.

Another feature that helps to keep me toasty and comfortable in the saddle is the tall collar. I like that I have the option to zip up the vest fully on chilly windy days. Or on warmer days, I can easily unzip the collar and fold it down for more ventilation.

The tall collar of the Horse Play Vest also has a draw cord integrated into the design. This allows the option of cinching in the collar, in order to provide additional warmth. I’m also very grateful for the hip length of the vest with the riders cut hem.

I’ve worn the Horse Play Vest often when riding out this season. Long rides mean that I need to stay warm enough, without overheating. Hey, when you are spending a couple of hours in the saddle, you do warm up quite a bit!

What do I like when riding in the Horse Play Vest? Firstly, I love how I feel warm and comfortable, while feeling simply stylish in the quilted horse pattern of the vest. My arms and shoulders have freedom of movement, which is certainly a plus.

I very much like the hip length of the vest — which really helped me out the day that I forgot to wear a belt, and my shirt kept coming untucked. Because I still had comfortable coverage thanks to the Horse Play Vest!

I also like having adequate storage space in the form of the two side zip pockets. Finally, I love the fact that care is so simple. Hair and dust brush right off of the smooth fabric. And, I can easily toss the Horse Play Vest in for a wash cold and tumble dry low.

The Horse Play Quilted Equestrian Vest is available from Kerrits, in sizes XS through 2X. It comes in colors that include Chestnut, Denim, Purple, and Black (pictured). The vest retails for $89, and you can find it here.
