P’s & Q’s

As a child I was always told to mind my P’s and Q’s, which of course were pleases and thank-YOU’s, but today at the Kentucky Horse Park was a rare day of Peace and Quiet. Although the Horse Park remains active throughout the winter, The Southern Lights, which runs from Thanksgiving until New Year’s Eve is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the South, as well as conventions ( the USEF just wrapped their’s up last week) and I always intend to go out and watch the winter indoor polo and mounted games sessions in the covered arena of an evening and at weekends but have yet to make it. When I do, I promise to take my camera and video, (as well as many layers of thermal underwear and flasks of hot beverages, that arena when the wind blows may be one of the coldest places on earth) and will bring back a full report.
IMG_0460.JPGI was at the Horse Park to speak to Executive Director John Nicholson, who I got to know quite well as we all prepared for the WEG. Despite a streaming cold, he sat down with me and we covered a number of topics, and I hope to have that interview up soon. Just as it’s hard to imagine ever being warm again, it almost seems like another world when we had some 800 horses here, and the temperatures hovered in the nineties on some days. I’d like to extend a thank you to John for pushing through the pain, and the “man-flu”, if anyone can attest to the adage and live by it, it must be him, “the show must go on”.
