Rebecca Howard is one of my favorite riders because she treats eventing like a true sport and focuses on the psychological, nutritional, cross-training aspects as well as her riding. With a win in the Jersey CIC2*, Rebecca and Roquefort are on the fast track to the Pan Ams for Canada. Rebecca was kind enough to send us a few quick thoughts on what Bromont means to Canadian eventing as well as a shout out to Omega Alpha, who sponsors both Rebecca and Eventing Nation.

Rebecca and Rocky winning the CIC2* at Jersey
From Rebecca:
As a Canadian kid from the west coas, Bromont was the first “big east coast event” that was in my conscience. It was a competition that I knew some day I wanted to ride in. Over the years I tried to get a horse here a few times, but the stars did not align until last year.
For us Canucks riding at intermediate and above, we do not often get to compete in our own country. It was not always the case, but currently Bromont is the only CCI at any level we have and, with the CCI3*, Quebec gives us the only advanced course currently in the country.
So this weekend feels special for a few reasons. Not only is it great to be back to the homeland with my horses, it is great to compete at such an exceptional event. The facilities, courses, footing (and poutien!!) provides such a top class week end for our sport.
Over 150 horses entered Bromont this year and one of the big reasons is that Derek Di Grazia designs wonderful cross-country courses for the event.
I have Roquefort (Rocky) with me this trip for the 2* and I am really excited for Bromont #2!…. Aller concours complet!
My horses have been using Omega Alpha products for almost 2 years now. The Gastra FX is my favorite product. It goes in my horses feed and also syringe to them before rides and long trips, such as the 18 hours to Bromont! My horses literally attack the syringe because it tastes good. I like it because it really helps to coat and keep their tummy’s happy through the stress of competing and traveling.
Update: what is poutine?
