The MadBarn Indoor Eventing Challenge at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair & Horse Show (Toronto) got off to a thrilling start last night, with Holly Jacks and Josephine (owned by Donna and Mike Van Beek), the 2022 champion of the Indoor Eventing at this venue. Josephine’s a handy horse to have in events like this, having also specialized in the Grand Prix show jumping ring with Holly. She’s a third-generation homebred Arab/Appaloosa/Thoroughbred/Canadian Warmblood who also evented to the 3* level, making her a hot tip to win it all tonight. It’s a two-round competition, with the best cumulative score taking the honors. Holly will be under threat from fellow Canadians Waylon Roberts (riding Penny Rowland’s Lakeside Park) and Jessie Phoenix (riding Penny Rowland’s ESI Nixon). Guest rider Harry Meade finished up the evening eighth riding Avery Tallman’s Young Rider partner, BDE Olympic Royale.
You’ll be able to tune in live here, and you can follow along with results from the whole show here.

Sponsor Corner: World Equestrian Brands
We love a good rescue story, and so does World Equestrian Brands. Through their ongoing partnership with FlyPups, World Equestrian Brands donates a portion of every website sale to help transport dogs from overcrowded kill shelters to safety.
FlyPups was born in 2011 when pilot Matt Kiener agreed to finish a rescue flight for a friend. One of the pups aboard that flight, Piper, made it clear she was coming home with him, becoming the first official “FlyPup” as a result. Inspired by Piper, Matt founded FlyPups Inc., and since then, the organization has completed over 100 missions across 23 states, rescuing more than 1,500 dogs.
It’s support from brands like World Equestrian Brands that helps FlyPups continue their valuable work. The next time you’re shopping for your horse, you might just help a dog get their big ride!
