Saturday Video: Phillip Dutton Welcomes Winning OTTB, Ring Weekend

Phillip Dutton has welcomed another promising off-track Thoroughbred to True Prospect Farm. Grade 1 winner Ring Weekend (Tapit — Free the Magic — Cryptoclearance) won over $1.5 million during his racing career under the watchful eyes of trainer Graham Motion. The 7-year-old gelding was retired last month and will now begin training for his next phase of life.

“While Ring Weekend is still sound and competitive, it’s time to hang up his cleats and let him move on to new frontiers,” West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley said.

Phillip is no stranger to working with OTTBs (the names Truluck, The Foreman, and Icabad Crane should ring a bell) and said of his new prospect: “He is such an athlete. I expect he will be just as successful in his new career as he was on the racetrack.”

Check out the video of Phillip working with Ring Weekend over some of his first fences not long after he left the track. He looks to be a natural over fences and we can’t wait to see him out eventing!
