The Calm before the Storm (but hopefully not!)

Tiana Coudray grazing her horses this morning

I think I speak for everyone, not only here at the Kentucky Horse Park, but across the South, that we all breathed a collective sigh of relief when we woke up this morning to blue skies, the sun, and a cool breeze – perfect conditions to start drying out the saturated ground and waterlogged course.

Dressage will be underway shortly, and the mood in the park is quiet and anticipatory. Some horses were hacking, I saw Hannah Sue Burnett walking back along the steeplechase trail on a very well-behaved St Barths, and Missy Ransenhouse on Critical Decision who looks great, but apparently had “woken up”!

Others were having flat lessons, or lunging, and some were grazing.  Laine Ashker was searching for four leaf clovers with Anthony Patch, she said she found six last year, and saw a few yesterday while walking the course, but hadn’t found any yet this morning, perhaps Al had eaten them!  Alex Van Tuyll, William Fox-Pitt’s groom told me last night she found four yesterday, so she was convinced that Neuf des Couers was going to win, and I certainly wouldn’t bet against her or William!

Dressage starts shortly, so I’m headed up to the main arena. I’ll bring you more later, thanks for checking in this morning, we’re drying out and going eventing!
