It’s only a week away now, and for the first time in a long time, not only do I have plans, but I’m looking forward to it…and I can spill the beans and tell you why!
We are going to the 2nd Annual Dixie Reined Cow Horse Association’s Make a Wish Equine Challenge.
Let me explain, or try to. 10 world class jumpers and eventers – think David & Karen O Connor, Buck Davidson, Peter Atkins & Laine Ashker amongst others, will try their hand at reining – the spins and sliding stops you may have seen America’s gold medal reiners doing at the WEG – really? Hellz to the yee-har!
Of course, this means that 10 top class reiners and ropers will have to navigate a course of show jumps, and let’s not forget that these riders aren’t just trading hats – it’s different saddles, shirts, bridles, spurs…
Add to that special guests, great prizes and it sounds like a party to me! By all accounts last year it was great fun, but most importantly it’s all for a fabulous cause.
As a teaser, here’s some footage of WEG rider Australian Peter Atkins, who’ll be returning this year, looking to give Anky a run for her money. Now why on earth weren’t Hamish & Dave all over this?!

All the craziness will take place at the Ocala Equestrian Centre next Monday night, 14th February, starting at 6pm. Tickets are $10 at the door, and if you can’t make it to the event, I will be reporting on (most of) it (!) and you can always make a donation to Make a Wish via their website.
