Get ready for the 2026 Baileys Horse Feeds Amateur League – a brand-new…

One Big Thing: Get ready for the 2026 Baileys Horse Feeds Amateur League
If there’s one thing we at EN will always get behind, it is promoting the amateur rider — the lifeblood of our sport. British Eventing seems to understand this as well, as they have announced an added incentive to the 2026 season: the 2026 Baileys Horse Feeds Amateur League.
While BE’s similar Opposition Beaten Percentage (OBP) Grassroots League series included dedicated leagues for BE80, BE90, BE100, and “Newcomer” levels, the Amateur league expands the offerings to amateur riders across BE100, Novice, and Intermediate levels as well. Per British Eventing, this “brand-new season-long league for members designed to celebrate the dedication, consistency and quality performances of amateur riders” will celebrate the amateurs of our sport, giving them the recognition they deserve and “a leaderboard of their own to chase”.
Powered by Baileys Horse Feeds and EquiRatings, the British Eventing Stats Centre will host a dedicated leaderboard to track performances, with published monthly updates, rider spotlights, and end-of-year prizes for the Top 10 in the League.
About the OBP Leagues
In 2022, British Eventing announced the opportunity for BE80-BE100 riders to potentially share in a £10,000 prize fund with their new Grassroots League, which has since continued annually to great response from the membership. Prize money in the League was paid out every other month to the rider currently topping each level in the Grassroots League, a format that the new Amateur League also intends to follow. We’ve seen these League competitors challenge the Grassroots Championships at Badminton the past few years, where eligible combinations from the Top 10 at each level are automatically qualified to compete against the top riders from British and Scottish regional championships.
Per British Eventing, “the Leagues have been designed around the concept of the Opposition Beaten Percentage, the brainchild of Equiratings. The idea is to acknowledge how competitive combinations are within their class – the greater the number of fellow competitors that you finished ahead of, the better your score. Prize money is paid out every other month to the person at the top of each of the leagues, as well as the overall winners at the end of the season.”
The amateur rider eligibility for the Amateur League is automatically classified by a rider’s competition history, to include analysis of:
- Competed a maximum of two horses in the preceding two seasons, or three horses in the current season
- No completion at Advanced or CCI4* in the preceding two seasons
- No completion at 5* at any time
