Who-hoo’s there? (groan!)

It is a sad fact of modern day life that despite email, texts, phones, Ipad 2’s, (!) etc etc, it seems we still can’t find enough time to spend with our close friends, even those that live in the same town.  I count Cathy Sweezey among these.  Cathy runs Timbertown Stables with her husband Wayne, and not only do they produce some of the best and most expensive race-horses in the world,

as well as being a keen woman to foxhounds. Luckily for this little fellow, they are both also among the most caring and knowledgeable people I know around any type of (bird or) animal!

They found this baby Great Horned Owl on  tuesday morning at the foot of a tree in their front yard; he must have either fallen or been pushed out of the nest. After some research they took him to the Raptor Rehab of Kentucky, and the latest update is he’s already been placed with a foster mother, and they will bring him back to the farm in the autumn to release him there.
Great Horned Owls are apparently one of the largest species of owl – look at the size of his claws already! – and also can be very protective. The man at the Rehab Centre told my friend

she was lucky that the mother didn’t swoop down and seriously
injure her while they rescued the baby. He also told them to be on the lookout for more owlets, as they grow so big so fast, that they may very well have more fall out of the nest. Consequently, the dogs are on “house arrest”, and I am on speed dial with my camera.
I’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime if you’re in the market for a fast racehorse, or a lovely TB eventer, be sure to give Cathy or Wayne a call, and if you go to visit them at Timber town, look up!
