As always, we love reader-submitted stories, reviews, and updates on what’s happening in the horse world that we haven’t picked up on. Long time reader Brooke Schafer submitted these photos and short synopsis to us, raving about a clinic this past weekend with Buck Davidson in Louisiana. Thanks to Brooke for sending this to us, and thanks for reading!  If you have a clinic report to share, send it to [email protected].

From Brooke:

This past weekend Holly Hill Farm in Benton, Louisiana hosted a two day clinic with Buck Davidson. Although Saturday was quite chilly, Sunday was beautiful with not a cloud in the sky. Riders came from Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana to attend the clinic. As always, Buck pushed each rider beyond their normal limits and challenged them to ride smarter to every fence. He emphasized the ability to slow down and speed up our horses using only our position as well as using the turns to find our lines and correctly approach each jump.

Saturday’s stadium exercises consisted of three poles of decreasing distance to a vertical which then built up to a gymanstic line of varying distances. Buck also set up an outside line consisting of four elements which naturally helped horse and rider reach optimum positioning.

Cross country followed the same concept of being able to adjust the horse’s speed with positioning. Buck stressed communication with the horse stating that “communicating with the horse is like communicating in a relationship. Without communication there is a big fight.” Buck was wonderful as always and everyone walked away with a new skill set and focus for the upcoming season!
