The CCI** show jumping proved just as influential as the CCI* course, although it rode a touch more conservatively. The top scores were all within a rail or two of each other going into this phase, so clear rounds were important in maintaining your position. There were four clear rounds out of 13 competitors, including all the top three medal winners.
Unfortunately for the leaders, Kendyl Tracy and Ever So Lucky, they had one very unlucky rail over the liverpool which dropped them all the way to fourth place. Kendyl is an amazing rider, and Bagel is a lovely horse, but very difficult to ride in the show jumping, and I know she worked really hard for the improvements she’s made to the mare. I know she’ll be back again kicking butt.
Connor Husain put in a beautiful clear round on his horse Piece of Hope to win his inaugural trip to Young Riders and bring home the long awaited glory for Area II!! This biased reporter is completely thrilled that 2012 resulted in an individual silver in the CCI*, as well as an individual gold and team silver for the CCI**.
My girl Lizzie Snow threw down a polished clear round on her mount, Coal Creek, to snatch the silver medal in redemption for last year, where she was poised to take the lead and she had some control issues on Cross Country. Lizzie is the consumate professional and completely deserves this!
Lexi Scovil and Sky Show rounded out the top three, with their very influential double clear to finish on their dressage score. Sky Show looks like a great mount, but made my heart leap a little with tipping his toes on a lot of the jumps!
Area VI, VII & IX held onto the lead from beginning to finish due to the wonderful riding of Lizzie and Kendyl as well as their teammate Sarah Braun. Silver medal went to Area II, III & IV, led by Connor and Bruno. Ontario & Canada hung onto third place for a bronze medal.
