Good morning and happy Friday! I know I keep harping on football, but NFL season officially kicks off as I write this, and I couldn’t be happier that I have something new to occupy my Sundays with. In more relevant news, Burghley — with its gorgeous grounds and world class combinations — is finally upon us. There is truly no better way to kick off fall than with this storied event. Your overnight leaders are Ingrid Klimke and FRH Butts Abraxxas, who waltzed in to steal the lead from early leaders Andreas Dibowski and FRH Butts Leon and Jock Paget and Clifton Lush. Ingrid is sitting on a 39.0 going into cross country, but several heavy weights — such as Badminton winner Clifton Lush with Jock aboard and 2012 Rolex winners William Fox-Pitt and Parklane Hawk — will challenge the lead today.

Your Friday News:

Eventer Amy Barrington suffered a serious brain injury after a fall on Wednesday. A recovery fund and information page has been set up on Facebook and is a great resource for keeping track of updates on Amy’s health and anything the family may need. A donation fund has been set up with the Equestrian Aid Foundation, but details are a bit unclear on how to donate at this time. Follow the Facebook page for more details as they become available. All of us here at EN are pulling for you, Amy! [Amy Barrington Recovery Page]

Are you competing at Copper Meadows this weekend? If so, get in touch with Ali Smallpage on Friday or Saturday to get your FREE FLAIR Equine Nasal Strip applied. Look for the telltale FLAIR cap, as Ali will be out and about all weekend, talking about the immeasurable benefits of the strips and scheduling appointments for free applications. You can either email [email protected] or tweet @FLAIRStrips with your stall/trailer location or phone number at least an hour before your cross country trip.

Have you entered FLAIR’s super awesome contest yet? You can win $250 by securing back to back HT wins between now and October 31. Be sure to use FLAIR strips for both your cross country and stadium rounds (take photos so we can see you rocking them!), and once you’ve got those blue ribbons hanging up on your wall, go collect your winnings and buy me a present! Boyd Martin showed everyone who’s boss at Richland Park a couple of weeks ago, and now he is up for USOC Male Athlete of the Month. He’s up against some pretty big names, including swimmer Ryan Lochte, but after seeing the promos for the new show What Would Ryan Lochte Do? I have withdrawn all respect that I may have had before. Sign into Twitter and show Boyd some love in this month’s poll! [USOC Male Athlete of the Month Twitter Poll]

European Championship Individual silver medalist Ben Maher has officially been ranked the current top show jump rider in the world. After helping Team Great Britain secure team gold at European Championships, Ben now finds himself at the top of the FEI World Rankings. [Maher Tops World Rankings]

Fair Hill organizers are working harder than our chinchillas to make this year’s 25th anniversary event special. Plenty of recognition for event volunteers is planned, and they are still looking for more volunteers to help out this year.
