Friday News & Notes from Legends Horse Feeds

This made me laugh waaaay more than it should have.

Happy Friday everyone! I love when people who have weekday jobs ask me what I’m up to on the weekend, like it’s going to be any different than the rest of the days? Ok yeah maybe I’m a little less available than on other days, as opposed to the “normal” human schedule of being more available on the weekends. Sorry, but not really that sorry. Ok, maybe I’m sorry that I don’t get two days a week to sleep in, that I would definitely be into, but you know, #horses.

News From Around the Globe:

Studies have found that riders are actually more stable in saddles without any flaps. Hold the phone on your custom saddles: maybe you should just order half of one? George Morris and Butet are already kinda in on this secret, but a new study with dressage horses shows that both horses and riders show more success without any flaps on their saddles. Significant reductions in rider movement and better balance were shown. [Riders Go Better Without Flaps]

Still interested in Surefire Horse Trials next weekend? You’re in luck, they are still accepting late entries! They’ve extended their deadline to June 19th, so contact Mary Coldren directly at (302) 547-0695 or [email protected], late fees apply.

Over 50 riders contested the FEI divisions at Aspen Farms last weekend, and winners took home cash along with their blue ribbons. CIC2* division winner Sophie Click aboard her own Fernhill Rising and CIC* division winner Jordan Linstedt riding Janine Jaro’s Staccato secured themselves an additional $500 in prize money as the top-placed Southern California Equestrian Sports (SCES) members in their respective divisions. Fancy ponies bred for cute dishy faces don’t have enough room for their teeth. You read that right, people are breeding ponies for designer faces so much now, that the poor ponies have horrible dentistry issues. As breeders try more and more for tiny mouths and dished faces, ponies are struggling to fit all their teeth in, and as a result, suffering from mouth crowding. [Designer Ponies Dentistry Woes]

Hot on Horse Nation: An Update on the PAST Act

As kill pen bails gain popularity on social media, it’s important to know what you’re getting into when you go save a horse from a slaughter auction. With too many horses being bred every year, it’s inevitable that many of them end up at less than desirable auctions. Yes, it can be a way to save a life and get a great horse in the process, but you should do your research before diving in head first. Luckily, we have Horse Nation on the task to help you make good life decisions. [So You Want To Rescue An Auction Horse]
